With the 4th just around the corner, I thought I would share a few simple resources for party food and baking ideas. One is Sandra Lee (Semi-Homemade on the Food Network). She has wonderfully simple and fun ideas (and who couldn’t use simple these days). Another is KraftFoods.com. There are few words except thank you. This site is easily navigated and the home of many of the recipes I’ve used for everything from trying to feed two picky little boys to small dinner parties.

From mom to mom… save yourself during a sugar rush (of small humans running your way that is) by pre-dipping the ice cream before your party. I use a medium size ice cream scoop, the ones with the antifreeze centers are the best, to scoop the balls. Before you refreeze, roll them in sprinkles and insert a wooden spoon (the kind we used as kids if you have them). Doing this ahead of time not only allows you to serve refreshments faster during the party, it also allows you to control the sprinkle mess.
Or, if you prefer the cone, you could still pre-scoop the ice cream and refreeze it. To help minimize dripping, melt some chocolate, dip the end of the cone and roll it in the sprinkles. Either way, the kids will think you’re a genius.
safari adventure
Written on June 25th, 2008 by KimMy youngest son turns two today. On Saturday we had a backyard safari with 10 of his best buddies. Imagine 10 children between the ages of two and four running wild… it was almost like being on the Serengeti. Today we’re taking him for a real adventure at the zoo. More to come next week on our Safari Adventure décor and how you can easily host an exciting adventure of your own.
the why
Written on June 23rd, 2008 by KimThere are actually a multitude of why. Wanting to live a little bit more by my own rules, wanting to enjoy my days more than I was in corporate America, wanting to build something from the ground up, wanting to take a chance, wanting to spend more time with my children (but don’t let this be your main driver because at least in the beginning, this is not the case; you will work harder than you ever have).
