Okay, I know we’re supposed to be doing tables this week, but I couldn’t resist. Today is going to be absolute sugar overload anyway, so why not add a little more with sugar cookies. I developed a love for decorating cookies about four years ago. Candidly I would prefer to save the calories for chocolate so I rarely eat them, but I love to make them and my boys love to help. These are a few of our Halloween cookies that we’ll share with our neighbors tonight. (For tips on how to flood sugar cookies, read this previous post.)

sugar, sugar and more sugar

Written on October 30th, 2008 by KimI mentioned a few weeks ago that we were having a block Halloween party. To show our spirit for the evening we made a lot of things… including this ghost. All you need is:
- 3 yards white bridal tulle
- 6 inch diameter Styrofoam ball
- Sheet of black construction paper
- 48″ dowel
- Hot glue
- Scissors
- Scrunch your tulle into several bunches so that it is very wrinkled (this will help it stand up and appear more spooky)
- Cut two 2 inch circles out of the black construction paper for the eyes and a large oval for the mouth
- Apply the paper to the Styrofoam ball with hot glue
- Insert your dowel in the bottom of the ball (use your scissors or a pencil to start the hole)
- Snip a 12 inch strip of the tulle and then drape the remaining tulle over the ball
- Define the neck by tying the tulle in place at the neck with the 12″ strip
Have fun!
magic wands
Written on October 29th, 2008 by KimBefore Halloween gets away from us I wanted to share a few more easy ideas with you this week. The kids (and most adults) love these, chocolate covered pretzel sticks, aka “magic wands.” Here’s how easy they are:
- Melt down chocolate wafers or blocks in a double boiler,
- Spoon the melted chocolate over the large pretzel rods,
- Embellish with Halloween inspired sprinkles,
- Allow them to dry standing up (a coffee mug works great), and
- Package them in clear cello pretzel bags (available at most craft stores).
That’s it. Enjoy!
monkey around
Written on October 28th, 2008 by Kim
Bring some fun into your tablescape with this cool napkin ring. And it’s so easy with this great template. We recommend a chocolate craft paper (with texture if you can find it) and a coordinating ribbon. I believe we used DCWV (Die Cuts With View) Espresso from the craft store and thin twine. Simply trace and cut out the design; then tie your ribbon around your napkin and hang your monkey by the tail. Or, you could use these as fun name tags on goody bags or even placecards hanging from each cup. Be creative!
