party hat ~ video tutorial

Party Hat

Hi everyone! I’m really starting to love making video for my You Tube channel. Today I’m sharing a quick video tutorial for party hats! We’ve all bought the general party hat for a birthday party and now I’m going to show you a super simple way to dress it up. {grin}

Fringe!

You only need a few supplies and few minutes and that regular old party hat gets a make over!

This little project was part of my craft series with JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores for their Creativity Made Simple initiative. If you’ve not already, please hop over to read my Q&A feature, see more craft projects including how to make simple beverage wrappers, a circus cake topper and more. Plus learn about how JoAnn and the Craft and Hobby Association are helping us reclaim our craft time!

And if you like what you see I’d love for you to help a girl out and subscribe to my You Tube channel! {big smile}

As always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake, create and celebrate!

Want to learn how to make a cake topper?

As I shared in my behind the scenes with JoAnn post last week, I’m working with JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores as their craft influencer for the month of May!

JoAnn and the Craft and Hobby Association are on a mission to help us cre8time! I don’t know about you, but crafting and creating relaxes me. And before you think it, nope. Not everything in my craft room turns out right the first time. As a matter of fact, sometimes half the fun for me is making a mess and learning how I could have done something better!

As part of the cre8time initiative, JoAnn has started the Creativity Made Simple project, sharing fun and easy ideas that we can make in 1-2-3!

For my first Creativity Made Simple idea, I’m sharing how to make a cake topper! Watch the how to video and hop over to JoAnn for a complete list of craft supplies.

And I’d love for you to subscribe to my You Tube video channel and JoAnn Fabric and Craft Store’s channel too!

As always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake, create and celebrate!

Today I’m sharing a bit about a project I’m working on with the amazing team at JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores.

JoAnn is talking Creativity Made Simple. It’s all about finding the time do what you love when life gets busy.

As part of Creativity Made Simple, JoAnn has selected one crafter to feature each month all year long. And they asked me to be their May craft influencer! {Yep, that’s my face on the homepage of the Creativity Made Simple!} I couldn’t be more honored.

You see, when I was still in my corporate career I would escape to JoAnns and a book store (located just next to my office) for a long lunch break to dream of starting my own company and to browse the isles for all the crafty things I was going to get into on the weekend. And to have such an amazing brand ask me to be a craft influencer only five short years later… well let’s just say that I feel incredibly blessed!

So as part of my role as craft influencer for the month of May, I created a new circus party idea for JoAnn. As well shot three videos showcasing easy ideas to help viewers craft their way to a fabulous party! Over the next few days I’ll be sharing the videos and more! {giddy}

In the meantime, here’s a peek at the behind the scenes of my video shoots!

The JoAnn team was not only kind, professional and super helpful, they were also a riot. If only I had some of my out-takes to share with you. Oh the faces I made when I messed up! {smirk}

Kim Byers

For those of you that follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen these before. And if you don’t, I’d love for you to join me. I’m under “The Celebration Shoppe.”

Much more coming about my projects and videos with JoAnn and Creativity Made Simple. Until then, and as always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake, create and celebrate!

Happy Thursday!

DIY Rudolph treat bags + how to video

I LOVE Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer! He’s my favorite. When I was a little girl I’d stare out the window on Christmas night and dream of seeing his red nose bobbing through the sky.

And when we didn’t see him my brother and I would pretend… until he’d start teasing me that Dad… an avid hunter… was going to shoot him out of the sky. I know… but you have to understand my brother is four years older than me and it was his job to torment me. {smirk}

Want to know how to make these adorable Rudolph cello treat bags for your Christmas party or maybe as Christmas favors for this year’s school party?! Well I made a quick how to video with the help of a very cute camera man (my oldest) and he insisted that I give him credit for that effort… in addition to a quarter {grin}. Enjoy!

As always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake, create and celebrate! Happy Friday everyone!

DIY candy corn wreath + video tutorial

I’m a huge fan of candy corn, more so the nostalia of it than the taste, but love it all the same.

And today I’m sharing how to make a candy corn inspired Halloween wreath using pine cones! My boys were playing a game where they would throw their footballs into three pine trees in our side yard to see who could knock down the most pine cones. Needless to say we had an overabundance and I felt challenged to make something out of them. {grin}

I’m pretty proud of how my pine cone wreath turned out! Here’s what you’ll need to make your own candy corn inspired pine cone wreath:

  • 15-17 medium size pine cones (if you can’t find them in nature, you can pick them up at your local JoAnns Fabric and Craft Store)
  • orange, yellow and white spray paint
  • base wreath (this one I upcycled from an old project, but you can pick them up for a few dollars at your local craft store)
  • orange ribbon
  • orange, yellow and white cardstock
  • stick glue
  • tools: scissors, glue gun

And here’s a easy how to video tutorial to show you all the easy steps for making your own pine cone wreath craft:

Oh, and don’t forget, my Candy Corn Halloween Party Collection (like these dessert labels) is free for download right now! Enjoy!

As always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake, create and celebrate! Happy Halloween!!

DIY ghost pillow with video tutorial

Super excited to share that I’m starting a DIY craft video series! I’ve been wanting to do it forever and now I’m finally taking the plunge. Oh, and I’m learning here so please be kind. {sheepish grin}

So today I teamed up with Sew Jewell to bring you a video tutorial on how to make a Halloween ghost pillow. Super easy craft and mine has been a plush toy for my boys, a throw pillow for my front porch bench and even hung as Halloween decor.

To make your own Halloween ghost plush pillow you’ll need:

  • 1/2 yard white fabric
  • 1/2 yard quilting batting
  • Pillow stuffing (how much depends on how fat you want him)
  • Black fabric (for the face)
  • WonderUnder or similar iron on adhesive  (available at your local craft store)
  • Sewing machine, or be willing to hand stitch

Watch our video craft tutorial for all the how to steps:

And here’s what he looks like with his ghostly tail.

Thanks for watching and as always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake, create and celebrate! Happy Halloween!!

how to make a paper airplane video

This summer has been amazing and I’m honestly having a hard time with it coming to a close… but before I tear up, I want to share with you the first of hopefully many The Kid’s Perspective videos that my boys are so super tickled about being a part of.

I was blessed with two boys who love to be in front of the camera. Thank goodness, right! My blog would be much less interesting and have far fewer photos if my boys were camera shy! {grin}

So when I mentioned that I was going to start vlogging myself about various craft projects, they started asking if they could make videos of their projects (they’re always making, building, drawing, creating something) and I thought why not start with them… I mean, they’re cute no matter what so I could save myself some angst and learn the ropes with their videos. That’s not terrible of me is it? {wink}

For the very first installment of The Kid’s Perspective, Alex is sharing how to make a flat nosed paper airplane in celebration of National Aviation Day. My uncle, a pilot (and attorney, he’s a super talented overachiever and we all love him dearly!) shared this design with my boys a few months ago and now they make no other kind of paper airplane. They claim, “Uncle Billy’s fly the best and the farthest!”

Yes, my home is often littered in a paper airplane war… {sigh}, and now yours can be too!

As always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake, create and celebrate!
