Kim Byers Featured in JoAnn Spring 2014 Trends and Ideas LookBook

The amazing team at JoAnn asked myself and three other bloggers to come up with five craft projects for five Spring trends: Romantic, Batik, Dazzling Blue, Metallic and Summer Celebration.

This project was so much fun and I can’t wait to post each of my five projects over the next few weeks.

Until then, click and browse through the pages of the inaugural issue, pick up a copy at your local JoAnn store, watch for them on their social media, or search by my name, Kim Byers, on JoAnn.com. Yep! I’m now a searchable item on JoAnn.com. {giddy}

Easy Reindeer Christmas Ornament {Wine Cork Craft}

A few months ago a craft of mine, wine cork gift wrap, was featured in All You magazine. The challenge was to work with a wine cork, or many, and I made this little guy during that process. In the end, I used the gift wrap images and idea for the magazine article, but I’m still really proud of my reindeer ornament. {smile}

Easy DIY Washi Tape Gift Tags {Have A Ball… A Gum Ball… This Christmas}

I’m hosting my annual Christmas cookie decorating party this coming Monday and that means fun food, creative jars of candies and lots of sprinkles. {grin}

Washi Tape Gift Tags | TheCelebrationShoppe.com

Most of you know my youngest has severe food allergies. Where my favorite candy is and will always be any form of chocolate {smirk}, his is gum.

I got these bright red gum balls from Candy Galaxy. They’re perfect in an apothecary jar, as holly berries on a wreath cake {oooh! Idea!}, or to package as class party favors. You have to stop in, they have every color!

For our party, I made this fun little tag, “Have A Ball This Christmas!” What can I say… I like puns. To make your own you’ll need:

  • Darice white frame gift tags
  • Scotch Washi Tape
  • Elmer’s Glue Dots
  • Darice red/white baker’s twine
  • Scissors (small detail scissors for trimming tape and whimsy frame scissors for the top sign)
  • White paper

And for the easy steps:

  1. Washi – apply tape at equal distances and trim off excess
  2. Glue Dot – add a glue dot to the center of the tag
  3. Message - in Word, type a message in pretty fonts
  4. Edge – cut the paper edge with a whimsy scissor, or straight edge, whatever you have

Sometimes it’s the little touches at a party that really make your guests smile. Happy Wednesday everyone. Only six more days to Christmas!!! {grin}

As always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake, create and celebrate!

Kid Craft: Footprint Manger Scene {DIY Tutorial}

Our faith holds first place in our house at Christmas time and I love reminding my children in the mix of all the excitement what this season really means.

Footprint Manger Art with TheCelebrationShoppe.com

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Sharpie, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #StaplesSharpie http://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO.

I warn you… the painting of the feet is ticklish so you may want to place a towel… or two… down. I warned my boys and they still flopped all over the place. {grin} In the end, it was so worth it to have their little (or not so little anymore) feet cradling their version of the baby Jesus.

Footprint Manger Art with TheCelebrationShoppe.com

To make your own Footprint Manger Scene, you’ll need:

  • Square white canvas
  • Sharpies – 12 ct. multipack, 4 ct. metallic assortment and either the silver or gold 4 pack (I LOVE them all and they’re all on sale at Staples right now!)
  • Brown craft paint for foot
  • Pearl white craft paint for head (we chose to stamp his head on with a finger but there are light Sharpies in the pack)
  • Paint brush
  • Optional: white Kraft paper

Footprint Manger Scene Kid Craft | TheCelebrationShoppe.com

And now for the easy kid crafting steps:

Footprint – paint your child’s foot liberally with brown paint and then press evenly to the center lower portion of the white canvas. Allow to dry completely.

Prep and practice – since canvas is unforgiving, I put white paper (available in rolls like gift wrap) out under the canvases so my kids could practice what they’re planning to draw before they put Sharpie to canvas. You can see in the top image my youngest practicing his stars. {wink}

Draw – then just let them go! You can see from the side-by-side shot below that our manger scenes are slightly different, but in my mind that is what makes them that much more precious.

Artist signature – and don’t forget to let them sign their art. We like to date ours too!

Kid Craft: Footprint Manger Art | TheCelebrationShoppe.com

Staples has all the Sharpies for your holiday needs! I mean $6 for a 12 ct Multi Colored pack of Sharpies! Woo Hoo! And the Sharpie Metallic Assorted 4-CT pack, including the Silver pack and the Gold pack are only $5. I’m personally a bit obsessed with all my Sharpie colors, but the metallic are my new favorites!

Kid Craft: Easy Paper Christmas Ornaments

Do you love making easy Christmas ornaments with your kiddos? A craft they can do all by themselves and be proud of? Me too!

Kid Craft: Easy DIY Christmas Ornaments | TheCelebrationShoppe.com

My boys loved this simple paper ornament craft idea. It’s as easy as 1-2-3! We picked our supplies up at JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores:

  • DCWV The Holiday Cheer Stack
  • Paper trimmer
  • Stapler and staples
  • Small hole punch
  • Embroidery thread to hand them on the tree

And here are the easy steps:

  1. Cut strips of paper (I chose this DCWV stack because it’s double sided) 1″ wide
  2. Cut the paper again in varying heights: 6″, 5″ and 4″
  3. Take two 6″ strips, two 5″ strips and one 4″ strip, staple the top, pinch the bottom even and staple again!

If you want to hang or use as gift wrap decorations, just punch a small hole in the top of the ornament and thread with embroidery thread.

As always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake, create and celebrate!

This #papercraftedChristmas project was created in partnership with JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores and DCWV. The Celebration Shoppe did receive compensation and supplies, but all opinions and ideas are my own. You know I’d have it no other way! And make sure you check out my DIY advent calendar too!
