Making football fare for any game or tailgate is fun, but the Super Bowl… well… it’s the Super Bowl! I’m a fan of all the savory sandwich recipes and dips, but I have to have a bit of sweet too. And what’s best about my little football ice cream sandwiches, they’re super easy to make and store until your guests arrive!

Kid Craft: Footprint Manger Scene {DIY Tutorial}

Our faith holds first place in our house at Christmas time and I love reminding my children in the mix of all the excitement what this season really means.

Footprint Manger Art with TheCelebrationShoppe.com

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Sharpie, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #StaplesSharpie http://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO.

I warn you… the painting of the feet is ticklish so you may want to place a towel… or two… down. I warned my boys and they still flopped all over the place. {grin} In the end, it was so worth it to have their little (or not so little anymore) feet cradling their version of the baby Jesus.

Footprint Manger Art with TheCelebrationShoppe.com

To make your own Footprint Manger Scene, you’ll need:

  • Square white canvas
  • Sharpies – 12 ct. multipack, 4 ct. metallic assortment and either the silver or gold 4 pack (I LOVE them all and they’re all on sale at Staples right now!)
  • Brown craft paint for foot
  • Pearl white craft paint for head (we chose to stamp his head on with a finger but there are light Sharpies in the pack)
  • Paint brush
  • Optional: white Kraft paper

Footprint Manger Scene Kid Craft | TheCelebrationShoppe.com

And now for the easy kid crafting steps:

Footprint – paint your child’s foot liberally with brown paint and then press evenly to the center lower portion of the white canvas. Allow to dry completely.

Prep and practice – since canvas is unforgiving, I put white paper (available in rolls like gift wrap) out under the canvases so my kids could practice what they’re planning to draw before they put Sharpie to canvas. You can see in the top image my youngest practicing his stars. {wink}

Draw – then just let them go! You can see from the side-by-side shot below that our manger scenes are slightly different, but in my mind that is what makes them that much more precious.

Artist signature – and don’t forget to let them sign their art. We like to date ours too!

Kid Craft: Footprint Manger Art | TheCelebrationShoppe.com

Staples has all the Sharpies for your holiday needs! I mean $6 for a 12 ct Multi Colored pack of Sharpies! Woo Hoo! And the Sharpie Metallic Assorted 4-CT pack, including the Silver pack and the Gold pack are only $5. I’m personally a bit obsessed with all my Sharpie colors, but the metallic are my new favorites!

How To Make An Easy DIY Christmas Advent Calendar {Tutorial}

We love having a Christmas advent calendar. The kids bounce out of bed each day giddy to see what is inside. When they were really tiny it was always a little note about how we would celebrate the season that day. Reading a book together, hot chocolate, etc.

DIY Advent Tutorial | TheCelebrationShoppe.com

Last year they really wanted to the LEGO advents in addition to our regular advent. My oldest got the original and my youngest got the Star Wars. They were fun and the boys wanted to do it again this year. After looking at the 2013 sets and how similar they are to the 2012 sets, I decided I’d rather buy a bigger Christmas set and separate it into the advent myself. The set was only a bit more and it is much cuter!

Well of course to make this magic happen that meant I had to create my own DIY advent calendar. Let me tell you, it is a huge hit with my kiddos and it looks pretty in my living room. {grin}

So let’s get crafty!

DIY Christmas Advent Calendar | TheCelebrationShoppe.com

To make your own advent calendar, you can find all of these supplies at JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores:

  • 4″ boxes or bags for the number of days that you’ll be celebrating (these exact boxes are from Pick Your Plum, but JoAnn has similar boxes & paper bags)
  • Mini clothespins (in the wood section)
  • Bakers twine or ribbon
  • DCWV The Christmas & Winter Glitter Cardstock Stack
  • DCWV The Holiday Cheer Stack
  • DCWV Chipboard Christmas embellishment (shown on top of frame)
  • Elmer’s Craft Bond Glue Spots 1/8″ thick
  • Whimsy frame 2.5″ punch
  • Circle 1″ punch
  • Foam adhesive squares
  • Optional: 30″ wide frame and hot glue (a banister or mantel would work great too)

DIY Advent Christmas Calendar | TheCelebrationShoppe.com

And these are the easy steps:

  1. Measure – if you’re hanging your boxes or bags inside a frame, measure the width of your packaging and the inside edges of your frame. Lay them out on the table in the arrangement you want.
  2. Select paper colors – flip through the DCWV The Christmas & Winter Glitter Cardstock Stack and select glitter paper.
  3. Punch frames - punch the sheets and set aside
  4. Punch and/or cut numbers – in the front of the DCWV The Holiday Cheer Stack you’ll find two sheets of frames and numbers. I punched the numbers from 1-19 out with a 1″ circle punch. I then cut out the frames for the 20-24 boxes.
  5. Attach frames and numbers – using 3/4 glue dots, attach the frames to the center of your packaging. Top with a foam adhesive dot and add the day/number.
  6. Hang – string bakers twine inside your frame (or along a banister or mantel), attach with hot glue or push pins (depending on the surface) and clothespin on each box.
  7. Give – I chose to only put the next morning’s gift in each day. There are two reasons for this. One, my boys might look… {grin} and two, it keeps the weight on the string to a minimum.

And if you’re like me, and you’re filling yours with LEGOs, take 24 resealable bags (or 48 in my case) and separate the LEGOs according to the instruction book. My boys are loving getting a new piece to their creation every day!

DIY Christmas Advent Calendar | TheCelebrationShoppe.com

I used small detail scissors for the whimsy frames on the numbers.

And this is what the foam adhesive dot looks like between the frame and number. Gives it just a bit of 3-D effect!

Peppermint OREO Cookie Balls {White Chocolate Recipe}

I love OREOS! My kids love OREOS! And now, we’re all loving this classic cookie as a OREO cookie ball!

Peppermint OREO Cookie Balls | TheCelebrationShoppe.com

Have you tried them? They are so super simple to make and can be modified in so many ways. OREO asked that I give them a try and wow! So yummy!

And since I’m craving all things peppermint these days, I made Christmas OREO Peppermint Cookie Balls! You know, out of the red cream filled holiday OREOs. {grin}

To make your own OREO cookie balls, you’ll need:

  • 1 pkg. (8 oz.) brick cream cheese, softened
  • 36 OREO Cookies, finely crushed (about 3 cups)
  • 1 pkg. white chocolate, melted
  • 1 pkg. soft peppermint (I prefer the old-fashioned soft kind!)

Easy steps:

  1. Crush the OREO cookies in a resealable plastic bag or bowl with a ladel
  2. Mix cream cheese and cookie crumbs until well blended
  3. Shape into 1-inch balls, makes about 48
  4. Freeze 10 minutes
  5. Crush peppermint
  6. Melt chocolate in microwave safe bowl in 30 second increments, stirring in between
  7. Insert lollipop sticks and dip
  8. Sprinkle with soft peppermint and allow to cool/dry. (TIP: I use a shallow bowl, grid cookie rack and wax paper to stand the pops up in to that all sides are pretty!)

Halloween Game: Bowling for Witches

Hosting a Halloween party this year? How about a party game!

Halloween Game, Bowling for Witches | TheCelebrationShoppe.com

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Cottonelle, but all my opinions are my own.

We hosted our annual Halloween party this past weekend and our guests ranged from 9 years old down to 18 months. As you can imagine, we had to have two sets of games set up for the kiddos.

My sons and their friends played outside most of the evening. We decorated our backyard with lights, spider webs, and a sort-of haunted tree house complete with monster eye window decorations, lanterns, jumping spiders, glowing lights and more. (Here’s a quick tutorial for the monster eye window decorations!)

For the little siblings, we kept them indoors and entertained with fun games like this one: Bowling for Witches!

To make this Halloween bowling game you’ll need:

  • 5-6 rolls of Cottonelle Triple Roll (I’ve even got a Cottonelle coupon for you! Buy Cottonelle Triple Roll 12-pack or larger and get a FREE box of Kleenex while supplies last.)
  • Washi tape (for your alley)
  • Ball
  • My free Sinister Sister Witch Download

Three easy steps to set up your Halloween bowling game:

  1. Craft your witches with a 2.5″ circle punch for the head / scissors for the hat and foam adhesive dot (so the hat appears raised) to attach them to each other
  2. Arrange the toilet paper and attach the witches
  3. Use washi tape to make an alley

To play the game, we let the little ones try to knock the witches off! The bigger kids of course knocked the whole thing down. {grin}

As for the witches, they’re also darling as cupcake toppers! The download includes the cupcake wrappers too if you’d like to give them a whirl as well.

easy monster eye Halloween window tutorial

Make your windows a little spooky this Halloween with this simple monster eyes window décor idea!

Monster Eyes Halloween Window Tutorial with TheCelebrationShoppe.com

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Cottonelle, but all my opinions are my own.

My family hosts an annual Halloween party every year, the Byers Family Boo Bash! {grin} And this year my boys are finally old enough to help me decorate. And with them being old enough to help, that also means they have their own ideas!

With 15 giggling kiddos coming over, my boys wanted to decorate their tree house to be a bit spooky. Nothing too creepy… but just enough to get a “eeek!” out of their friends! There is a flip up, hatch-type window, on the front so the boys made a Monster Eye Window. It was super easy and a big hit with the kiddos!

To make monster eye windows this Halloween, you’ll need:

  • Roll or two of Cottonelle Triple Roll (I’ve even got a Cottonelle coupon for you! Buy Cottonelle Triple Roll 12-pack or larger and get a FREE box of Kleenex while supplies last.)
  • 2 Sheets of Black Cardstock
  • 2 Nails and Hammer (or tape if you’re covering a real window)

Monster Eye Window Tutorial | TheCelebrationShoppe.com

And here are the three easy steps:

  1. Cut two large circles out of cardstock.
  2. Nail to window, or tape if glass.
  3. Wrap with toilet paper (tape at each side if you can’t wrap around).

Mummy Wrap Halloween Game with TheCelebrationShoppe.com

In addition to the monster eyes, we also had a mummy wrap game during the party. Sadly, it was a bit too dark to get good pics, these were taken with my iPhone, but it was a riot! Just have the kids pair up and choose who is going to wrap and who is going to be wrapped. Then, starting at the legs, ready-set-go and wrap to the top. The first to finish without the toilet paper breaking wins!

AND, we had a “Bowling for Witches” game. I’ll be posting about it next and it will include FREE printables!

As always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake, create and celebrate!

Hi ladies! Want an easy and family friendly punch idea for this year’s Halloween party?! Well it doesn’t get any easier than my potion punch!

And why not serve it in these beautiful everyday crystal goblets from Villeroy & Boch. No formal dinner needed to pull these pretties out of the cabinet!

It’s really time to end the myth that crystal glasses are delicate and should be saved for special occasions. Villeroy & Boch’s everyday crystal is durable and doesn’t cloud or chip. And that’s even with my boys (ages 7 and 9) using them for milk at dinner. It makes them feel special and I love the way the set table looks. Trust me, Villeroy & Boch is the everyday luxury you deserve!

  2. Top with 7up and watch it fizz! The kiddos will think it’s fun!

preserving has never been easier

How to make peach jam | thecelebrationshoppe.com

This post is brought to you by Ball, but all opinions are 100% mine. You know I’d have it no other way!

When I was a little girl I used to help my grandmother preserve. I use the word “help” loosely. She did all the work while I chatted her ear off about anything and everything going on in my life. {grin}

She was harvesting a garden and a number of apple and peach trees so it was a large process. She passed away a few years ago and I have a jar of her jelly in my pantry. Her jar of jelly in my pantry is likely ruined by now… but I can’t bare to open it or throw it away.She made jelly out of a wild berry that grows down South, a muscadine. Maybe because I grew up on it, but I’ve never tasted a better jelly.

For the first time ever this weekend, I made jam. All by myself. And guess what… it is amazing!

Jam Maker from Ball Brand

I used the new first-of-its-kind appliance from Ball brand canning products, the Fresh TECH Automatic Jam and Jelly Maker. I made fresh jam (it makes jelly too!) in under 30 minutes with the push of a button… what typically takes an hour on the stovetop)!

Peach Jam

And since it’s the height of peach season around here, I decided to make peach jam.

How to make peach jam | thecelebrationshoppe.com

And I chose to use the low sugar pectin. It’s just as good, if not better than the original.

For this peach jam recipe (yields 12 oz. jar):

  • 2 cups fresh chopped peaches, mashed
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp butter (use Smart Balance Light for dairy-free)
  • 3 tsp. lemon juice

In the new  Fresh TECH Automatic Jam and Jelly Maker, sprinkle in the pectin, top with fruit, water, lemon juice and soft butter (to help reduce foaming). Press jam button. It will start a 21 minute process. 4 minutes in you’ll hear a beep and this is when you sprinkle in the sugar while the machine is still churning. Top with lid and allow the machine to do the rest.

LOVE making jam this way! So much easier than the way my Grandmother made it.

Winnie The Pooh Hunny Pot Rice Krispies Treats | thecelebrationshoppe.com

This post is brought to you by Disney and Blue Print Social, but all opinions are 100% mine. You know I’d have it no other way! Original idea created by Kim Byers and seen here on TheCelebrationShoppe.com first.

I’ve been in love with Winnie the Pooh since I was a little girl. It’s no surprise my boys loved him too. As a matter of fact, I have a picture of my oldest with Pooh from our very first trip to Disney World on my wall right now. He was 19 months at the time and we spent most of our Magic Kingdom day in the Winnie the Pooh toddler area. I think Pooh’s house was just too exciting! {grin}

Now we’re celebrating the release of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, all the original Pooh antics and the perfect gift for any Winnie The Pooh lover. The Blu-ray Combo Pack and HD Digital will be available on August 27th, but you can see video snippets and pre-order now!

We had the opportunity to preview the movie so I whipped up a fun little HUNNY POT Rice Krispies Treat to get the kiddos excited.

Winnie The Pooh HUNNY Pot Rice Krispies Treats | TheCelebrationShoppe.com

You’ll need:

  • 6 cups Rice Krispies
  • 1 bag marshmallows
  • 1/2 stick butter (or two tablespoons Smart Balance vegan spread for dairy-free treats)
  • 1 can chocolate icing
  • 1 can lemon icing (or you can tint vanilla with yellow food coloring)
  • Yellow jelly beans
  • Egg shaped cookie cutter (mine is 1″ deep)
  • Lollipop sticks
  • Freezer strength resealable bags
  • #4 Wilton icing tip and connector
  • Wax paper

Winnie The Pooh Hunny Pot Rice Krispies Treats | thecelebrationshoppe.com

And the easy how to steps:

  1. Make the Rice Krispies – Prepare Rice Krispies treats according to directions on the box. Butter cookie cutter and spoon warm treats into cutter to mold shape. Insert a lollipop stick and allow to cool on wax paper.
  2. Shape the pots – Using buttered hands, gently compress the egg shape point down a bit and close any holes in the Rice Krispies shape, especially the sides.
  3. Pipe the pots – Attach the #4 icing tip with connector to resealable bag and fill with chocolate icing. Pipe a pot outline as shown.
  4. Make the bees – Pipe three lines on yellow jelly beans (aka bees), one for each pot.
  5. Fill the pots – Remove metal tip and warm remaining icing for 5 seconds in the microwave. Slowly pour warm icing into pot outline and allow to set.
  6. Pipe the “HUNNY” – Attach the #4 icing tip with connector to a new resealable bag and fill with lemon icing. Pipe a “HUNNY” outline with a drip onto the pot on one side. AND write the word “HUNNY” on the pot. Remove the metal tip, warm the remaining lemon icing for 5 seconds in the microwave and slowly pour warm icing into outline.
  7. Top with a bee – Attach bee before the “HUNNY” icing dries.

Recipe yields 6 Rice Krispies Hunny Pots.
