preserving has never been easier

How to make peach jam | thecelebrationshoppe.com

This post is brought to you by Ball, but all opinions are 100% mine. You know I’d have it no other way!

When I was a little girl I used to help my grandmother preserve. I use the word “help” loosely. She did all the work while I chatted her ear off about anything and everything going on in my life. {grin}

She was harvesting a garden and a number of apple and peach trees so it was a large process. She passed away a few years ago and I have a jar of her jelly in my pantry. Her jar of jelly in my pantry is likely ruined by now… but I can’t bare to open it or throw it away.She made jelly out of a wild berry that grows down South, a muscadine. Maybe because I grew up on it, but I’ve never tasted a better jelly.

For the first time ever this weekend, I made jam. All by myself. And guess what… it is amazing!

Jam Maker from Ball Brand

I used the new first-of-its-kind appliance from Ball brand canning products, the Fresh TECH Automatic Jam and Jelly Maker. I made fresh jam (it makes jelly too!) in under 30 minutes with the push of a button… what typically takes an hour on the stovetop)!

Peach Jam

And since it’s the height of peach season around here, I decided to make peach jam.

How to make peach jam | thecelebrationshoppe.com

And I chose to use the low sugar pectin. It’s just as good, if not better than the original.

For this peach jam recipe (yields 12 oz. jar):

  • 2 cups fresh chopped peaches, mashed
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp butter (use Smart Balance Light for dairy-free)
  • 3 tsp. lemon juice

In the new  Fresh TECH Automatic Jam and Jelly Maker, sprinkle in the pectin, top with fruit, water, lemon juice and soft butter (to help reduce foaming). Press jam button. It will start a 21 minute process. 4 minutes in you’ll hear a beep and this is when you sprinkle in the sugar while the machine is still churning. Top with lid and allow the machine to do the rest.

LOVE making jam this way! So much easier than the way my Grandmother made it.

This post is brought to you by Disney and Blue Print Social, but all opinions are 100% mine. You know I’d have it no other way! Original idea created by Kim Byers and seen here on TheCelebrationShoppe.com first.

I’ve been in love with Winnie the Pooh since I was a little girl. It’s no surprise my boys loved him too. As a matter of fact, I have a picture of my oldest with Pooh from our very first trip to Disney World on my wall right now. He was 19 months at the time and we spent most of our Magic Kingdom day in the Winnie the Pooh toddler area. I think Pooh’s house was just too exciting! {grin}

Now we’re celebrating the release of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, all the original Pooh antics and the perfect gift for any Winnie The Pooh lover. The Blu-ray Combo Pack and HD Digital will be available on August 27th, but you can see video snippets and pre-order now!

We had the opportunity to preview the movie so I whipped up a fun little HUNNY POT Rice Krispies Treat to get the kiddos excited.

Winnie The Pooh HUNNY Pot Rice Krispies Treats | TheCelebrationShoppe.com

You’ll need:

  • 6 cups Rice Krispies
  • 1 bag marshmallows
  • 1/2 stick butter (or two tablespoons Smart Balance vegan spread for dairy-free treats)
  • 1 can chocolate icing
  • 1 can lemon icing (or you can tint vanilla with yellow food coloring)
  • Yellow jelly beans
  • Egg shaped cookie cutter (mine is 1″ deep)
  • Lollipop sticks
  • Freezer strength resealable bags
  • #4 Wilton icing tip and connector
  • Wax paper

Winnie The Pooh Hunny Pot Rice Krispies Treats | thecelebrationshoppe.com

And the easy how to steps:

  1. Make the Rice Krispies – Prepare Rice Krispies treats according to directions on the box. Butter cookie cutter and spoon warm treats into cutter to mold shape. Insert a lollipop stick and allow to cool on wax paper.
  2. Shape the pots – Using buttered hands, gently compress the egg shape point down a bit and close any holes in the Rice Krispies shape, especially the sides.
  3. Pipe the pots – Attach the #4 icing tip with connector to resealable bag and fill with chocolate icing. Pipe a pot outline as shown.
  4. Make the bees – Pipe three lines on yellow jelly beans (aka bees), one for each pot.
  5. Fill the pots – Remove metal tip and warm remaining icing for 5 seconds in the microwave. Slowly pour warm icing into pot outline and allow to set.
  6. Pipe the “HUNNY” – Attach the #4 icing tip with connector to a new resealable bag and fill with lemon icing. Pipe a “HUNNY” outline with a drip onto the pot on one side. AND write the word “HUNNY” on the pot. Remove the metal tip, warm the remaining lemon icing for 5 seconds in the microwave and slowly pour warm icing into outline.
  7. Top with a bee – Attach bee before the “HUNNY” icing dries.

Recipe yields 6 Rice Krispies Hunny Pots.

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Outshine Fruit Bars, but all my opinions are my own. You know I’d have it no other way! #pmedia #SnackBrighter

Okay friends. You know my seven year old has severe food allergies.

It’s one of the things that drove me to learn to bake. You know, the kind of baking where you leave out or add ingredients until you perfect a recipe so that no one, family or guests, realize that something is missing. Yep. Pretty much everything I do is dairy free and no one is the wiser! I even make homemade dairy free ice cream sometimes and my hardest challenge, his older brother, loves it.

Popsicles

Well, with Edy’s Outstine Fruit Bars, there is no need to whip anything up. They’re simple. They’re real. They’re delicious. AND, they come in a multitude of flavors. These four (some seasonal) are my family’s favorites: Pineapple, Lemon, Peach and Strawberry.

I loved them all, but my absolute hands down favorite is the lemon. Refreshing. Amazing. In LOVE!

I know I feel good about feeding my kids Edy’s. They get a refreshing and delicious treat and I have piece of mind that they’re filled with honest, real ingredients.

10 must haves for tailgating & football

Tailgate Party Tips and Ideas | thecelebrationshoppe.com

Believe it or not… it’s almost that time. Yep. Time to cart the kids to football practice and plan your first tailgate party of the year! I know because my son starts flag football practice (he wishes he could tackle… but momma needs baby steps with this sport) next week and my husband has already taken over the family schedule starting the first weekend in September. {smirk}

So as I start planning our tailgating season and dreaming of crisp fall days, I thought I’d share some of my favorite tailgate party finds, as well as some of my “must-haves” for staying organized during football and cheer season.

At the top of this list is my large utility tote from Thirty-One GiftsI use mine for taking all the snacks, extra jackets/blankets (it gets COLD here in Ohio in the fall… especially when we play a 9 a.m. game…), water bottles, equipment and my thermal even fits. It helps keep me organized and I only have to carry one bag! It’s #8 in the roundup above, but mine is (aqua blue like the bag in #10) and has our family name monogrammed in the front. I really wanted the chevron bag… but my boys thought it looked a bit too girly for the games. {grin}

So here we go. If you’re planning a tailgate party, you’ll need:

  • 1. Frozen Drink Blender – this single serve blender available at Amazon is perfect. No more wasting a batch of frozen margaritas!
  • 2. Football Party Supplies – you can download my chevron and football field sheets plus “go team” cupcake wrappers and toppers for FREE!
  • 3. Tailgate Party Games – these ring toss and lawn bowling games are from Front Porch Classics
  • 4. Bar-height Folding Round Tables - nope. I’m not suggesting you have bar stools at your tailgate, just the bar height table. A few of these around the site allows party goers a place to congregate while standing. Plus, I hate bending over to eat messy BBQ! {wink}
  • 5. Wine and dine party plate and cup and plate party plates  - no more balancing act with your plate and your cup or glass of wine. Genius invention for tailgating!
  • 6. Party wagon grill- pull it out and wheel it where ever the party is from Wholesale Patio Store!

And if you carting the kids around to their games, you’ll LOVE to be able to personalize your bag with their name, number, and even a favorite collegiate team logo! I have to admit… I do love a monogram!

  • 7. Cheer moms – the (A) large utility tote with (B) pocket utility tote insert is my fav! Plus, (C) organizing utility tote and (D) lil’ expressions tote are perfect for keeping all your gear. The lil’ expressions tote can be personalized with outfits, hair type and color for boys and girls.
  • 8. Football moms – as I mentioned above, the Large Utility Tote is my fav and as you can see from the image you can make it what you want with dividers and tops. And it all removes easily so you can change it out for other purposes like keeping your groceries from rolling around in the trunk. I so use it for that a lot!
  • 9. Cold drinks – We often spend several hours at the field so we sometimes take lunch. The (A) Thermal Tote and (C) Bring A Bottle Thermal are perfect for drinks and bringing cold snacks for the team.
  • 10. Healthy snacks – The (B) Keep It Caddy is a bit smaller and perfect for all those snacks you know you’ll be taking unless you want to spend your day at the concession stand.

You can shop all of Thirty-One Gifts goodies from their Thirty-One Gifts Catalog  (bottom of the left navigation bar). Just contact a consultant in your area to place your order. And in the month of August 2013 if you spend $35 and get any purse 50% off! You can find their latest deal (a new one every month) here!

As always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake, create and oh yes, celebrate this football season!

5 tips for a well organized pantry

5 Tips For A Well Organized Pantry 1

This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Home Depot & Rubbermaid, but all my opinions are my own. You know I’d have it no other way! #pmedia #AllAccessOrganizers

I love an organized pantry. LOVE! Unfortunately I’ve not been loving mine for a while now.  I considered sharing a “before” picture of my pantry with you, but honestly I was embarrassed. Yep. It was that bad. See. I’m a baker so I have tons of baking supplies. You know. Sprinkles. Cookie cutters. Cake pans. Candies. Chocolate. And on and on. And it was in disarray.

Well… I guess I can hang my head and show you a bit of what it looked like…

Pantry Organization - Before

What?! I’m NOT sharing a big picture of my shame… {smirk}. This is all my pride can take. You get it though right. It was a mess.

So here’s the deal. I know better. You get something out, you put it back. We tell our kids this exact thing all the time. Right! Well, now I’m going to lay my excuse on you. I’ve been working on this big project (can’t wait to share it with you) and my pantry has gotten a bit out of control. So I really needed to take the control back. When I’m organized my projects just flow better and are done sooner. So here we go.

My five top tips for organizing your pantry:

  1. Empty the space – trust me. I know it’s a pain, but it’s amazing how energized to organize {grin} you are when you’re looking at a empty canvas.
  2. Separate by type or use – while all your things are out on your kitchen floor, take the time to organize them either by what they are, or the item’s use. For my baking pantry I’ve organized mine by candies, sprinkles, tools, chocolates, cupcake tins, etc.
  3. Keep heavy items low and light items high – I’m not short, but I’m not tall and I certainly don’t want to pull something heavy out on my head. Which, I have to admit was exactly what I’ve been doing. My cake pans, individually, are not heavy, but when you put them all in a basket (that they don’t fit in) and then try to pull out just what you need, or pull the whole thing out… well… it can be hazardous to your health!
  4. Use containers that make staying organized easy – what I mean by this is, purchase containers that make it easy to “store–use–return” without much work. You might say, what’s the big deal… unstack the containers, pull out the container you need, pop the lid, store your items. Okay, so let’s get honest with each other. You and I both know that more often than not you will leave the ONE item that you needed to store on top of the stack telling yourself you’ll put it away when you have other things that need to be put away too. {knowing glare} You think I’m being judgemental. No ladies. I’m not. This is what I do myself and I know I’m not alone!
  5. Label – I know what you’re thinking. It’s pretty, but I don’t have the time. Actually, I label because it forces me to consciously think “I’m misplacing this.” Nine out of 10 times, when I have labels I put things where they belong the first time. Plus, it doesn’t hurt when little people are helping you tidy up!

Okay, so I shared that my cake pans are a death trap. Just teetering above my head ready to fall. And actually they have a few times…

Inside All Access 4075wl

And this is how they look now! On the floor, per tip #3, and organized by size so I know exactly what I have at a glance.

5 Pantry Organization Tips | thecelebrationshoppe.com

Now, beyond my five tips, let me share with you my new favorite storage tub for my pantry. Rubbermaid just came out with these new All Access™ Organizers available at Home Depot. Want to know why I like them so much? THEY OPEN FROM THE FRONT!

Okay… this is just genius. Think about it. No more unstacking them to get that one thing out, or in. This new design will actually help you stay organized because you won’t have the excuse that the box you need is way on the bottom. Yep. I use that excuse too. {grin}

Another thing. I like to store fabrics and craft papers in tubs in my basement. Well, I like to see what is inside without opening it, but I need the color tubs so that the sun doesn’t fade them. Now I have the best of both worlds! I can see in and I just place the color side to the window!

The All Access™ Organizers are also perfect for closets, playrooms, laundry rooms or anywhere you need some storage. For example, my oldest tried to snitch my small tub for his LEGO collection. I won on the tug-of-war, but had to promise to go back and get more.

Ice Cream Recipe

Ice cream recipes… vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, what about blueberry lemon! I went to a little ice cream shop near our home a few weeks ago and they were serving lemon blueberry yogurt. It was incredible. I could have eaten the entire bucket!

You may have seen in my post yesterday that I teamed up Kohl’s to make a few dairy-free soy ice cream recipes. Well, this one was more for me than my son (the family member behind the dairy-free soy ice cream recipes).

Lemon Blueberry Soy Ice Cream

To make homemade blueberry and lemon ice cream you’ll need to first make a blueberry compote. Here’s what you’ll need and how:

  • 2 cups fresh blueberries
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • ⅓ cup water

In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the blueberries, sugar and water. Simmer until the blueberries begin to burst, stirring often, for about 8-10 minutes. Cook until the compote coats your spoon, for about another 4-5 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely. Yields about a cup.

And for the ice cream recipe, you’ll need:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 8 egg yolks
  • 2 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 4 cups soymilk (I used vanilla soymilk)
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup blueberry compote
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • Nostalgia Ice Cream Maker (available at Kohl’s)

Lemon Blueberry Ice Cream Recipe

Easy steps:

  1. Mix eggs yolks, sugar and corn starch.
  2. Heat soy milk (not boiling, but hot) in sauce pan and slowly pour into mixture while continuing to mix. (NOTE: Again, not boiling or you’ll cook the egg!)
  3. Add vanilla extract while continuing to mix.
  4. Pour mixture into a sauce pan and gently heat until it thickens.
  5. Let the mixture cool in the refrigerator for three to four hours.
  6. Fold in blueberries and lemon juice.
  7. Pour mixture into ice cream maker and follow the maker instructions.

Yields about one quart.

best ever OREO ice cream recipe

Ice Cream Recipe

Ice cream recipes… vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, blueberry… have been on my mind for the past few weeks.

My youngest has severe food allergies and at the top of that list is dairy… which can make summer treats very hard. When all the other kiddos are running to the ice cream truck and picking anything they want off the menu, my little one has to ask to read the label before he can start munching. He handles it well… better than I would at his age… but it makes my heart hurt that he has to.

So I teamed up with Kohl’s to make a few dairy-free soy ice cream recipes. (Blueberry and lemon ice cream recipe is coming tomorrow!)

I have to say, I think I’ve nailed it. It tastes like the old-fashioned ice cream we used to make when I was a kid. Not only does my little one with food allergies love this OREO ice cream recipe (yep… OREOs have no dairy or egg or nut!), but so does my oldest and he can eat anything!

To make homemade soy OREO ice cream, you’ll need:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 8 egg yolks
  • 2 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 4 cups soymilk (I used vanilla soymilk)
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 10 crushed OREO cookies (I used chocolate filled OREOs. If you use regular, the ice cream will remain vanilla)
  • Nostalgia Ice Cream Maker (available at Kohl’s)

Ice Cream Recipe

Easy steps:

  6. Crush 10 OREO cookies in a resealable bag, fold into cold mixture, add to ice cream maker and churn.

Yields about one quart.

Americana {entertaining ideas for summer}

This post brought to you by World Market . All opinions are 100% mine. You know I’d have it no other way! {grin}

Americana

My hubby was in the Air Force, along with his brothers and dad, so Americana party décor gets a lot of use around my house with Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day celebrations. Whether or not our boys will serve remains to be seen, but we want them to have a strong sense of country and the sacrifices that others make for us daily so that we can live free.

Long story short, patriotic holidays are not only celebrated, but truly a time of thankfulness and remembrance for our family.

Americana

This year, I shopped World Market’s Americana collection (Outdoor Entertaining, Outdoor Furniture) for our 4th of July BBQ and then meandered over to their linens section to add a few extra touches! The pewter placemats may be my favorite. I chose them, along with the gray and white paper straws because they reminded me of sparklers. One of my favorites from childhood 4th of July picnics, and a fast growing favorite with my boys. They’ve gone through two boxes in the past week!

Americana cupcake stand

Americana cupcakes

And if you know me, you know I love paper goods to bring a pop to my tables. I found these fun and creative Americana Meri Meri cupcake tins and toppers at World Market, along with this wire dessert stand. It’s the perfect way to bring some height to your table.

Americana party

An easy way to make a table feel cozy and inviting outdoors, is to hang lanterns. World Market has the lighting kits so you could bring them alive if you’re celebrating at night! I also had to have the little nutcracker. Or, I should say, my son just had to have it! {grin}

Americana

And, especially when serving guests outdoors, you need service trays. This one pulled in both of my major colors, red and pewter. LOVE it for carrying all the supplies to set up the table and then later to serve dessert.

Sangria

Did you know that World Market isn’t only about home décor and entertaining supplies? They also have a large food and wine section. I’m excited to say that I made an amazing White Strawberry, Lemon and Apple Sangria with World Market’s Castaneda White Sangria!

Sangria

Ingredients
  • 2 lemons, thinly sliced
  • 1 lemon, sliced thicker and halved for garnish
  • 1 apple, sliced long-way (Gala or Fuji, a crisp apple, works best)
  • 1 cup strawberries, hulled and sliced lengthwise
  • 1 liter White Sangria Castaneda (available at World Market)
Instructions
  1. Add lemon slices, apples, and strawberries to pitcher.
  2. Pour the sangria over top.
  3. Cover and place in the refrigerator for 4 – 5 hours.
  4. Add a lemon slice to each glass and pour sangria over to serve!

 Sangria

Not only am I sharing my 4th of July plans with you this morning, I’m also sharing an amazing World Market’s Great Summer Getaway Sweepstakes! You can win Southwest Airline tickets, hotel room and $500 World Market giftcard! If I won I’d buy a new kitchen table (they have AMAZING choices) and I’d fly the kids to Orlando. We always fly Southwest when we go see Mickey. {grin}

Good luck and happy summer entertaining!

Ever heard of Social Artworking? It’s the coolest and easiest way to host an art party. {This post is sponsored, but as always, all opinions are my own. You know I’d have it no other way!}

You worry about the food, and let Social Artworking do the rest!

art party

Just visit the shop, select a design, and tell them how many guests you will have. They will send you the most amazing, and I do mean A-MAZING, supplies!

I chose this beautiful sunflower design. It’s looks complicated, right? Well, Social Artworking is geared toward adults, but clearly kiddos (I recommend 7 and up) can do it too. You know why?

This is the best part… they send you transfer paper and the design so you can outline it on the canvas before you get started. It’s perfect and keeps everyone on the same 1-2-3 instruction as you paint.

Art Party

My boys helped me set up. We brought a long table out onto the deck, laid plastic down (my hubby insisted…), covered the table in paper and set up all the supplies.

Social Artworking will send you:

  • 16×20 canvases
  • Wooden easels
  • Wooden handle paint brushes
  • Palette buckets (loved these)
  • Paint (all the colors needed to complete your project)
  • Palette paper (gloss finish so that it doesn’t soak through)
  • Transfer paper
  • Design
  • Paint aprons

Art Party

My guests included moms and kids and they both had a blast!  Plus, honestly, my kiddos felt really proud of what they created. One of my friends and her daughter even went straight home and hung their sunflowers up on the wall!

Art Party

If your into art, or just into hosting a really creative gathering with your girlfriends (or your girlfriends and their kiddos like I did), you won’t be disappointed with Social Artworking. From the quality of the supplies to the lovely designs, you’ll be impressed and so will your guests!

Oz The Great And Powerful {DIY wand}

Oz The Great And Powerful

Oz The Great And Powerful Blu-Ray Combo Pack releases in a few short days, on June 11. If you didn’t catch it at the theaters, you simply must see it now. It’s all about how Oz made it to Oz! {grin} Oh, and there is a bit about the witches too. All three of them! {shudder}

I have to say, Disney really did a beautiful job. The colors and characters were amazing… and THE witch had my youngest peeking out from under his blanket. He made his dad come sit next to him. I was there, but I wasn’t enough. {smirk}

The girly in me though was struck by Glinda The Good Witch. Her dress, her crown, oh… and her wand! It was so simple, yet so beautiful!

Oz The Great And Powerful

I mean what girl doesn’t want a wand?! So I thought, why not make a few. Here’s what you’ll need to make an easy DIY candy wand:

  • Marshmallows
  • Pepperidge Farms Pirouette Rolled Wafers (these are French Vanilla!)
  • Pure Cane Sugar
  • White Icing
  • Kitchen Scissors

And the simple how to for making your wands:

  • Trim your marshmallows. Using kitchen scissors, cut each of the corners off your marshmallow so that it looks like a diamond. (TIP: Wash your scissors between each marshmallow or they’ll start to stick.)
  • Add shine. Dip each edge (sticky sides) in pure cane sugar.
  • Attach handle. Dip the end of the wafer in white icing and attach the wand tip. Allow to set for at least 10 minutes before you display.

Rather watch how I made these? Well you’re in luck because I made a little video. And while you’re there, I’d love for you to subscribe to my youtube channel. By the way, my eight year old was my camera man on this one because I couldn’t find the stand. That’s cute though… right?! {grin}

By the way, if you’re having a party, I would display in a 4″ or so tall clear (square if you have it) vase filled half way with more pure cane sugar. Once the wands are dry, just place them in, handle first, so all the good little witches at your party can grab them easily!

But I’m not done! I have another very fun tutorial for Oz The Great And Powerful.

When I was prepping for our “at home” movie viewing we made some adorable and easy Oz The Great And Powerful popcorn bags. Come see how to make these easy bags for this movie, or any Disney movie premier! {grin}
