Thanksgiving kid activity: thankful tree

My little ones NEED fun things to keep them busy on Thanksgiving Day because the rest of us congregate in the kitchen a lot. Not always cooking… more like nibbling… as my mom cooks.

So this year my boys are going to be decorating part of their own Thanksgiving kids table. First craft up, a Thankful Tree, but instead of cutting out or punching out leaf shapes, they will be rubbing real leaves with crayons and they will be collecting said leaves as well. The reason? I want this activity to take longer than 3 minutes. {grin}

Join me over at Kellogg’s Snackpicks.com for more Thanksgiving Day kid activity ideas, and some very fun Thanksgiving kid treats from me and other fabulous bloggers.

organize your craft room GIVEAWAY

I’m always looking for great storage for my craft room. I have an ever growing supply and it can get out of control. {grin}

So when the fabulous people at Rubbermaid asked if I’d like to try the new Bento Boxes available at JoAnns Craft and Fabric Stores, I was all in!

The new Bento Boxes are a stylish design that can stay out in the open. No need to hide these pretty fabric covered storage boxes. But they’re not just pretty, they’re a bit genius when it comes to organizing and getting the best use of the space!

Have a look! Bento Boxes have interior dividers that you can customize. They pop out, literally, from the side and they’re strong so things don’t slip under the dividers.

Other fabulous features that I’ve really enjoyed, especially when hauling my craft supplies around my house or off to photo shoots — the lids and handles. The lids are super stong and completely flat on top so you can actually use them as a work surface. But again, there’s more… you can flip the lid upside down and have a work surface with sides so things don’t roll away. This might be my favorite feature when we’re shooting outside!

And what’s better, I’m giving away a set to one lucky reader! Entering is simple and you can enter up to four times using Raffelcoption (in the box below, either login with facebook or just use your e-mail address):

DIY Halloween trick-or-treat bags

I’m hanging out over on my blog at Kellogg’s Snackpicks.com today sharing some fun and creative DIY Halloween trick-or-treat bag ideas!

With Halloween just around the corner I’m getting excited. And as you ladies know, I love to craft, bake and in general create with my two boys and the holidays just give me a specific reason to pull them into the kitchen or the craft room.

I also like to volunteer in their classrooms and these simple, economical and creative Halloween treat bags will be perfect for their class Halloween parties this year.

I whipped up four ideas using colorful lunch bags: a Monster, Owl, Spider Web and Cat. I hope you’ll hop over to Snackpicks.com and join me for all the easy DIY details and of course a step-by-step pictorial of how to make each bag!

cinnamon roll cookies

As a brand ambassador for Kellogg’s on Snackpicks.com, I get to try out new products, sometimes before they even hit shelves. Well, as you can imagine, my boys tear into the big box of goodies as soon as it hits the doorstep each quarter. This last box included something brand new!

They’re Keebler Cinnamon Roll Cookies with Cinnabon cinnamon! I know… say no more, right?! But as you can see from the picture, they’re soft and moist. Everyone that has come in the door this week has been forced to try one. Okay, forced might be an overstatement since there doesn’t take much coercion. {grin}

The best part, warm up a few and you’ll forget you got them out of a bag and you’ll think they just popped out of the oven!

As always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake, create, celebrate and in this case, munch! Happy Tuesday!

tailgate party snack ideas

It’s that time of year! It’s football season! And that means it’s time to host tailgate parties! My hubby is a huge football fan, Ohio State football fan to be exact. And I came from a huge football loving family… University of Alabama, Roll Tide Roll! {wink} There aren’t many times when we clash since our teams are in two separate conferences, but when it does happen it’s done all in good spirit and very loud cheering! {grin}

So today I’m talking sweet and savory tailgate party snacks and goodies over on Kellogg’s Snackpicks.com to help kick-off this season. And my first idea was gobbled up as soon as the photos were shot! Guacamole and Town House Flipsides Pretzel Crackers served in single portion fry cones! Other great combinations you could serve are Italian Herb Flatbread Crisps with fresh salsa or Flipsides Pretzel Crackers with queso. YUM!

Hop over to my article on Kellogg’s Snackpicks.com for more ideas! And as always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake, create and TAILGATE!

shopping back to school style

I’m still a bit in denial. This summer has gone by so quickly and although we’ve had so much fun, my boys are amazingly ready to get back to school. They may change their minds in a week or so, but for now, they’re ready! And let’s face it, getting new clothes, new school supplies, new backpacks, etc…. etc…. etc… {hear the money leaving your bank account}, is exciting!

And each year, to make sure I’m getting the best deals and to keep my boys from having a melt-down because we’re in the store too too long, we tend to shop online before we hit the stores. I also keep tabs on our favorite stores by signing up for their e-mail lists/coupons.

My oldest son is in love with green… green everything {I hope this subsides soon} so he chose a green polo, jeans and skull shoe combo from Old Navy as one of his first picks. For the shoes,  he liked the design and I love that they’ll go with almost everything!  Plus, through August 15 — my boys sizes in jeans are half price, just $10 a pair!

And he really wants a watch, like this Flex 4D gray watch, this year. I debated because I don’t want him counting the minutes til school is out, but he is 7 3/4… almost a grown man… so I guess it’s time. {grin}

My youngest son loves blue… his big brother chose it for him {smirk} when he was a toddler and it stuck! So he’s loving these DC Mariner Blue Stripe Shirt and DC Navy Chino Shorts with Shark Vans and a “mini” Flex (just a skinnier version of his brother’s pick). And for those brisk days, this Patagonia jacket.

And who said moms didn’t also get a little back to school wear! I’ve been collecting a few things on my Pinterest board, Clothing. You should have a peek… and I should think of a cleverer name for my board!

As always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake, create and in this case, SHOP! Happy Friday everyone!

kiwi crates ~ art science imagination

I got to be supermom this week because the boys got to try out a fabulous new activity box from Kiwi Crate.

I love the concept. It’s so genius. You sign up at KiwiCrate.com and each month you receive a new box of activities… and even more fun, you never know the topic until you open the box. It could be arts and crafts, it could be science or it could be imaginative play.

Each box is for kids ages 3-7 and filled to the top with fun. I was honestly amazed at how much was in the box and the quality of the papers and supplies. Well worth the $19.95 per box, which by the way includes shipping!

You get two activities per month and ours was a sibling kit that had enough for two kiddos. And since it was my youngest son’s birthday (bonus to receive some extra goodies on your birthday!), I let him choose which craft to do first. He chose “my bug painting” and off we went!

But I have to tell you that I really wanted to make the “my firefly.” It’s a bottle with lots of goodies to attach. It actually will glow and runs on a zip line! I know… cool!

You start with a little inspiration booklet that tells you everything involved in the activity with ideas on how to expand your little one’s imagination. You can see a sample booklet on KiwiCrate.com

Our kit came with three large coloring sheets, paint, paint brushes, sponges, pencils, paint trays, and

sponges that expand the instant they hit water… the kids thought those were great!

The project asked for each child to embellish their papers with bugs they’d seen in nature and to imagine what they might eat, where they might live and what other bugs they might hang out with to help bring the habitat to life.

Ladybugs and caterpillars were high on our list,

along with bumble bees and butterflies. I loved how my oldest made the stripes on the bee with the edge of a small straight sponge! Clever little guy.

He also used that same sponge to make the legs on a jumping spider. We have way… way… too many spiders around here this summer! {skin crawling}

And he used the pencil to draw on the bug trails. You know the dash lines showing the bug’s path. Oh, and of course to sign his art. {grin}

If you have a creative little one, or you want to spark their creativity, I strongly encourage you to give KiwiCrate.com a look. Their ideas are educational, entertaining and a great excuse for you to get creative with the kiddos. Not to mention there’s no planning on your part since all the supplies come straight to your door every month! LOVE it!

And for the next five days, Kiwi Crate is offering 25% off your first $19.95 crate. Just enter CLEVER25 at checkout!

As always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake and create! Now I’m off to put the final touches on my little guy’s big birthday party. It’s now a short 28 hours away so I best get baking! Happy Thursday!
