cinnamon roll cookies

As a brand ambassador for Kellogg’s on Snackpicks.com, I get to try out new products, sometimes before they even hit shelves. Well, as you can imagine, my boys tear into the big box of goodies as soon as it hits the doorstep each quarter. This last box included something brand new!

They’re Keebler Cinnamon Roll Cookies with Cinnabon cinnamon! I know… say no more, right?! But as you can see from the picture, they’re soft and moist. Everyone that has come in the door this week has been forced to try one. Okay, forced might be an overstatement since there doesn’t take much coercion. {grin}

The best part, warm up a few and you’ll forget you got them out of a bag and you’ll think they just popped out of the oven!

As always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake, create, celebrate and in this case, munch! Happy Tuesday!

tailgate party snack ideas

It’s that time of year! It’s football season! And that means it’s time to host tailgate parties! My hubby is a huge football fan, Ohio State football fan to be exact. And I came from a huge football loving family… University of Alabama, Roll Tide Roll! {wink} There aren’t many times when we clash since our teams are in two separate conferences, but when it does happen it’s done all in good spirit and very loud cheering! {grin}

So today I’m talking sweet and savory tailgate party snacks and goodies over on Kellogg’s Snackpicks.com to help kick-off this season. And my first idea was gobbled up as soon as the photos were shot! Guacamole and Town House Flipsides Pretzel Crackers served in single portion fry cones! Other great combinations you could serve are Italian Herb Flatbread Crisps with fresh salsa or Flipsides Pretzel Crackers with queso. YUM!

Hop over to my article on Kellogg’s Snackpicks.com for more ideas! And as always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake, create and TAILGATE!

shopping back to school style

I’m still a bit in denial. This summer has gone by so quickly and although we’ve had so much fun, my boys are amazingly ready to get back to school. They may change their minds in a week or so, but for now, they’re ready! And let’s face it, getting new clothes, new school supplies, new backpacks, etc…. etc…. etc… {hear the money leaving your bank account}, is exciting!

And each year, to make sure I’m getting the best deals and to keep my boys from having a melt-down because we’re in the store too too long, we tend to shop online before we hit the stores. I also keep tabs on our favorite stores by signing up for their e-mail lists/coupons.

My oldest son is in love with green… green everything {I hope this subsides soon} so he chose a green polo, jeans and skull shoe combo from Old Navy as one of his first picks. For the shoes,  he liked the design and I love that they’ll go with almost everything!  Plus, through August 15 — my boys sizes in jeans are half price, just $10 a pair!

And he really wants a watch, like this Flex 4D gray watch, this year. I debated because I don’t want him counting the minutes til school is out, but he is 7 3/4… almost a grown man… so I guess it’s time. {grin}

My youngest son loves blue… his big brother chose it for him {smirk} when he was a toddler and it stuck! So he’s loving these DC Mariner Blue Stripe Shirt and DC Navy Chino Shorts with Shark Vans and a “mini” Flex (just a skinnier version of his brother’s pick). And for those brisk days, this Patagonia jacket.

And who said moms didn’t also get a little back to school wear! I’ve been collecting a few things on my Pinterest board, Clothing. You should have a peek… and I should think of a cleverer name for my board!

As always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake, create and in this case, SHOP! Happy Friday everyone!

A few years ago I used a Kellogg’s cookie, Murray’s Sugar Free Shortbread Cookie, to garnish cups in an Easter table I did for Parents magazine and I thought it time to do it again! I love how this looks and you can bet it will get the girls giggling!

kiwi crates ~ art science imagination

I got to be supermom this week because the boys got to try out a fabulous new activity box from Kiwi Crate.

I love the concept. It’s so genius. You sign up at KiwiCrate.com and each month you receive a new box of activities… and even more fun, you never know the topic until you open the box. It could be arts and crafts, it could be science or it could be imaginative play.

Each box is for kids ages 3-7 and filled to the top with fun. I was honestly amazed at how much was in the box and the quality of the papers and supplies. Well worth the $19.95 per box, which by the way includes shipping!

You get two activities per month and ours was a sibling kit that had enough for two kiddos. And since it was my youngest son’s birthday (bonus to receive some extra goodies on your birthday!), I let him choose which craft to do first. He chose “my bug painting” and off we went!

But I have to tell you that I really wanted to make the “my firefly.” It’s a bottle with lots of goodies to attach. It actually will glow and runs on a zip line! I know… cool!

You start with a little inspiration booklet that tells you everything involved in the activity with ideas on how to expand your little one’s imagination. You can see a sample booklet on KiwiCrate.com

Our kit came with three large coloring sheets, paint, paint brushes, sponges, pencils, paint trays, and

sponges that expand the instant they hit water… the kids thought those were great!

The project asked for each child to embellish their papers with bugs they’d seen in nature and to imagine what they might eat, where they might live and what other bugs they might hang out with to help bring the habitat to life.

Ladybugs and caterpillars were high on our list,

along with bumble bees and butterflies. I loved how my oldest made the stripes on the bee with the edge of a small straight sponge! Clever little guy.

He also used that same sponge to make the legs on a jumping spider. We have way… way… too many spiders around here this summer! {skin crawling}

And he used the pencil to draw on the bug trails. You know the dash lines showing the bug’s path. Oh, and of course to sign his art. {grin}

If you have a creative little one, or you want to spark their creativity, I strongly encourage you to give KiwiCrate.com a look. Their ideas are educational, entertaining and a great excuse for you to get creative with the kiddos. Not to mention there’s no planning on your part since all the supplies come straight to your door every month! LOVE it!

And for the next five days, Kiwi Crate is offering 25% off your first $19.95 crate. Just enter CLEVER25 at checkout!

As always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake and create! Now I’m off to put the final touches on my little guy’s big birthday party. It’s now a short 28 hours away so I best get baking! Happy Thursday!

switch & go dinosaur toys

This post brought to you by VTechKids. All opinions are 100% mine.

We’re a house of dinosaur lovers. We read books about dinosaurs, we’ve had a dinosaur birthday party (seen in Parents magazine… still tickled about that), we have tons of dinosaur toys and most recently picked out dinosaur decor for the little guys bedroom.

So when Vtech asked if I’d like to try out their new Switch & Go Dinos, I was all in and the boys were super excited telling me that I have the best job in the world. {grin}

The boys ripped open the packages immediately and quickly transformed the dinos back and forth between dinos and their alter ego car versions. They loved how super easy the toys are to transform (we have some that take forever and never quite look the same after the first transition…).

Then they took to the tall Jurassic ferns of my flower beds and the grasslands. And of course boys will be boys so they also had to ram them against each other a few times. I can say that both dinosaurs survived very well!

And I found them in some odd places… atop the tree house banister for one. {love this one}

Then they moved to racing them as cars on our chalk drawn super highway.

I can honestly say I wasn’t sure how my 7 year old, soon to be 8, would take to this toy. The proud momma in me isn’t a bit ashamed to say he’s advanced for his age (science, particularly physics, is his thing) but at the end of the day he’s still a kid and he played right along side his little brother, age 5, for almost two hours. Even through his dad gutting our downstairs bathroom and all the interesting things that come along with that. I can say I was a bit amazed.

Then, the next day, they played with them again all morning! Here’s why I think these toys kept their attention so long and continue to:

  • combines two boy favorites – dinosaurs and vehicles
  • each toy has a LCD screen that allows the child to customize the animation, changing drivers when in vehicle mode and eyes when in dinosaur mode
  • dramatic dino and vehicle sounds that bring the toys to life with over 30 expressions when in dinosaur mode

My boys played with Sliver the T-Rex and Horns the Triceratops. These guys plus T-Don the Pteranodon and Tonn the Stegosaurus you can buy today on Amazon and Vtechkids.com for a suggested retail price of $15.99.

And this fall, three more Switch & Go Dinos will be available: Attila the Ankylosaurus (SRP: $24.99), Span the Spinosaurus (SRP: $29.99) and Brok the Brachiosaurus (SRP: $49.99). My youngest has already added T-Don the Pteranodon to his birthday list and both boys are eyeing Attila for their Christmas list!

Visit Amazon.com and VTechKids.com to start shopping Switch & Go Dinos now! As always, I hope you’re inspired!

patriotic cake + FREE printables

With Memorial Day only a few days away and summer about to kick into high gear, I wanted to create a super simple red, white and blue patriotic cake that you can put together in a snap! The first thing you need to do is:

DOWNLOAD my FREE Patriotic Party Printables

The set includes cupcake rounds (the circles embellishing this cake), a four pattern pennant banner and dessert tags (seen here with other holiday recipesthat you can edit within the file before you print!

Next, bake a cake and flat ice it with buttercream. (Tip: If you’re in a hurry, or just not confident of your icing skills, order one from your favorite bakery.)

Now, punch out the cupcake rounds with a 2.5″ circle punch. Hot glue the circle to the end of a lollipop stick (cut in half) and insert the stick into the cake. (Tip: See pictures of how easy this is in my Robot Birthday Party Cake post.)

Finally, edge your cake with red sixlets found at most any candy shop. I picked these up at Party City. (Tip: If you love the cake plate, it’s from the Martha Stewart collection at Macy’s.)

Memorial Day recipes with Kellogg’s

For my latest project with Snackpicks.com, Kellogg’s and Tastefully Simple teamed up for the perfect combination of Town House Sea Salt and Olive Oil Flatbread Crisps and a Smokey Cheddar Cheese Ball, among other fabulous summer recipes.

With Memorial Day coming and summer BBQs on my calendar, I decided to serve them in mini cups (clear plastic found at most grocery stores) for outdoor events and easy cleanup.

I also chose to bring some color to an otherwise rather dull plate, by trimming and inserting a fun patriotic polka dot pattern under my cups. This sheet and the dessert label in the first image, are both part of my latest FREE printable, along with cupcake rounds and a four pattern banner.

Download my FREE Patriotic Printables now!

And as a bonus, you’ll find my FREE Teacher Appreciation candy bar wrapper printables at the end of the file too. Each can be edited directly in the document with Adobe Reader. No special application or version necessary!

More to come on my easy, ready in five minutes, red white and blue patriotic cake in my next post! In the meantime, hop over to Snackpicks.com for several more fabulous  and ”simple” Memorial Day recipes that will have your guests coming back for more!

This super simple recipe highlights the new Keebler Chips Deluxe Dark Chocolate Chunk cookie. {YUM!}

And it would be perfect for a bumble bee baby shower or bridal shower (see my full printable party collection), or any kind of tasting party for that matter.
