princess cupcakes {video tutorial}

Have a little princess in your life? Planning a princess birthday party?

In my latest video craft tutorial with JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores, as their Creativity Made Simple Craft Influencer for the month of May, I share how to make simple princess cupcakes with just a few supplies from the scrapbook section.

My favorite finds, which you’ll see in the video, were the crown embellishments from Martha Stewart Crafts and the chevron papers from a new DCWV birthday party pack.

Hi everyone, it;s Bridget!

I’m a sucker for a great brownie recipe! Actually, I’m a sucker for anything chocolate, but brownies are my ultimate weakness! {smirk}

From simply sweet to richly decadent, I collected my favorite brownie recipes to share:

Does anyone else have a chocolate craving now?! {wink}

Of course, I wanted to share the Brownie Bite Kisses that Kim made for a sweet Mother’s Day treat. How do you stop with just one of these lovelies?  And for those sweet lovers who aren’t so sweet on chocolate {gasp}, I added the Orange Brownies from Laughing Spatula to round out our mix.

easy brownie bite kisses recipe

Brownie Recipe

For our Mother’s Day brunch yesterday I made this simple brownie recipe. I call them Brownie Bite Kisses! Ya know, Mother’s Day and kisses! {grin}

They were so yummy and couldn’t have been easier to make with my favorite brownie mix from Duncan Hines, the chewy fudge mix!

Those of you who know about my kiddos know that my youngest has food allergies and sometimes it’s really challenging to make anything “quick.” Thanks to Duncan Hines there are several dairy-free, nut-free and egg-free cake and brownie recipes that I can grab off the shelf and then just add my favorite ingredients to.

Brownie Recipe

For this simple brownie recipe, you’ll need:

And for the easy steps:

  • Prepare the batter
  • Bake them in mini cupcake cups (fill 3/4 way)
  • Spoon Marshmallow Crème into a resealable bag, trim off a corner, pipe a small dollup of crème. My best advise, no larger than a dime. The crème will expand and will drip if you pipe too much
  • Allow the creme to expand and then top with a Hershey’s Kiss
  • Tip for Food Allergy Sufferers ~ For my little guy I used his dairy-free chocolate drops (you can find them at Trader Joe’s or Divvies, both brands are fabulous!)

As always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake, create and celebrate!

Easter bunny cake + blog hop

Easter is just around the corner and we’ve designed some sweet little Easter bunny freebies just for you!  And we didn’t design just any bunny, it’s a 3-D bunny!

These Easter bunnies are adorable on cupcakes, but I decided to use them to decorate a flat iced double layer chocolate cake (if you’re not a baker, just ask the bakery at your local grocery store to make one for you without the decorations; this one was only $14 at Kroger).

Here’s how you craft them:

Using a 2.5″ circular punch, cut out the bunny faces.

Cut out the bunny ears, leaving the bases attached so that all your ears are the same distance from each other.

If you want the 3-D look, attach them to the back of the faces with foam adhesive dots.

For the sides of the cake, cut a lollipop stick in half and hot glue the flat end to the bunny. For the cake topper, or for a cupcake, attach the lollipop stick to the back of the bunny.

Super easy and I hope you think fabulously lovely! {smile}

Another tip, if you purchase your cake at the bakery, it may have a cardboard edge. Just trim it off with an exacto knife (on a wooden cutting board) and then cover the edges with candies. I used light pink sixlets.

DIY nautical party cake

I’m so excited this morning to share the first of many easy birthday party cakes decorated with printables designs! I created my first one for my youngest son’s pirate party this past summer (coming in a post soon) and have been thinking up ideas ever since. And just this past week I finally stopped long enough to grab my camera and photograph a few.

This cake is perfect for a nautical inspired baby shower or birthday party and a cake printable party set (as you see here and with the option to have personalized) is available in the shoppe along with the rest of my Little Sailor printable party collection, including invitations, thank you notes, beverage wrappers, cupcake wrappers, dessert tags, banners and more, later today!

Not a great baker?! No matter. Just visit your local bake shop or grocery store and order up a two layer flat iced buttercream or whipped frosting cake. I picked this one up at Kroger for $14.

Here’s how you get started. The set comes with both anchor and whale rounds (I suggest using a 2 1/2″ circle punch, available at any craft store) and a sheet of red and white stripe paper.

You’ll also want white lollipop sticks (cut in half), a thin dowel (available in packs of 20 at your craft store for $2), a glue stick and your hot glue gun.

Plus, you’ll want some type of candy filler or edger to hide the base of the cake. I used bright red sixlets. And this cake plate, is the medium square cake plate from the Martha Stewart line at Macy’s.

And here’s how you assemble your printable cake designs.

Port holes for cake sides:

  1. Punch out the whale and anchor rounds
  2. Place a small dot of hot glue on the end of one lollipop stick and attach the whale round to the end, like a flat umbrella, repeat six times

Sailboat mast:

  1. Cut out a mast from the pattern sheet (cut out a rectangle with a straight edge paper trimmer and then using scissors, cut a  slight curve in at the sides)
  2. Cut out a flag (long rectangle, 3/4″ x 5″)
  3. Place glue (glue stick works best) on the back side of your flag and fold it around the top of the dowel starting with the stick at the center of the paper. Sure up your edges the best you can and then trim off any small pieces of white and trim out a triangle on the tip.
  4. Place one dot of hot glue on the dowel where you want the bottom of your mast. Insert the center portion of the paper, holding it straight up, not flat. Allow it to dry for 8-10 seconds. Repeat at the top allowing the paper to bow out as if the wind is blowing.
  5. Add a dot of hot glue to the center of the mast and apply a anchor round.

It’s one of the easiest cakes I ever decorated, especially since I didn’t have to bake or ice!
