tis the season to shop, eat & win $100

I had the best time this weekend! It all started on Friday when I had lunch with some of my sweet friends to welcome Laurie of Tip Junkie to the neighborhood and to thank my girls Bridget and Tammy for being so welcoming when she needed direction on the best schools/neighborhoods and I didn’t have all the answers.

We went to Marcella’s, a lovely little Italian restaurant. We talked and laughed too loud… and ate amazing desserts. And the best part, besides that blurry pic that our waitress took… {sorry girls!}, we didn’t have to worry about divvying up the check at the table (and making me late to pick up my babies from school… ).

With the new Serve card from American Express, one person can pay the bill and then be reimbursed by their  friends instantly via e-mail or mobile device.

Then, on Saturday, we took the boys to the theatre to see Arthur Christmas, shopping at the Lego store and to lunch. This pic is of my oldest really enjoying the movie. Apologies again for the less than perfect photography. These are from my cell phone. What?! I can’t take my real camera everywhere! {grin}

As you can imagine, the lines were crazy. And guess what came in handy, my Serve card! My mom was buying the boys a few Christmas gifts, on the sly, and I saw a toy I had been looking for at the last minute. I couldn’t very well stand in line for 30 minutes holding it and them next to me so mom paid for it with her stash while I took the boys elsewhere and then I was able to pay her back instantly through my serve account. It was fabulous! No more checks!

It’s basically a pre-paid card that you can load up from your bank account, with cash, etc. In addition to be able to pay people back quickly via e-mail or your mobile devise, divvying up checks and the like, it’s perfect for those that are nervous about shopping online with their regular credit cards and for those who want to help their tweens and teens learn how to use a card wisely without having to worry they’ll overspend.

The best, best part! This post is sponsored by Serve from American Express. And if you sign up for Serve (super easy) you’ll receive a $10 credit that you can use the very first time you use the card. Just leave me a comment (it can be how you’d use serve or just hi) below by December 31, 2011 and you’re entered to win an extra $100 credit to your account! Yippee!! (NOTE: American Express will randomly select a winner on Jan. 9. The winner will be notified via e-mail.)

headbands for hip girlies

I first met Stephanie of Paislee Lane when she submitted her little girl as a model candidate for our Art party photo shoot (Art Party Dessert Table, Art Party Photo Op, Art Party Collection in the Shoppe) back in April. Here daughter was just adorable and came to the party wearing this fun little headband. When I asked Stephanie about it I found out that she’s the creative soul and owner of Paislee Lane, a shop of headbands for hip girlies.

So when we started planning our harvest party shoot, I contacted Stephanie to see if she would like to create some headbands for the girls. She sweetly said yes and they turned out so very lovely.

And now Stephanie has agreed to give one lucky winner, one each of the beautiful designs she created for us. That’s four beautiful headbands in lovely fall colors, plus the design of your choice, a $50 value!

Get Carded with Hallmark {$100 value}

In this world of IMs, Tweets and Facebook, the art of a handwritten note can get lost in the shuffle. I know I’m guilty of it. That’s why I’m excited to introduce the “Get Carded Challenge” from Hallmark — a fun way to help us connect and re-connect with the special people in our lives “just because.”

For me, I have a 94 year old grandfather, who is thankfully healthy and still lives in the home (in Alabama, some 800 miles from me) he and my grandmother raised their children in. My grandmother passed away a few years ago (I still miss her terribly and I’m sure he does too) and he’s now living alone. Not being of the generation of computers, cell phones and the internet, my dad and I call him every day just to check in. The conversations are sometimes shorter than I would like (in this world of running a company, being a chauffeur to two boys, sports, etc., etc.) so when this offer came my way I knew exactly who I wanted to send my cards to.

Getting mail, especially unexpected mail, with a sweet note and maybe even a picture inside of the family, can really brighten someone’s day. I encourage us all to pause from time to time and reach out to those we love and those we rarely get to spend time with.

And this giveaway, an assortment of 14 Hallmark cards (including postage) PLUS two recordable storybooks, is just the way to get started. You may recall my post on the recordable storybooks from January. They are a brilliant idea! My dad lives near my grandfather (again, some 800 miles away) and how wonderful it would be for him to be able to read my boys a story anytime they wanted! I know what you’re thinking, why don’t I give him mine… NOPE! I like the idea that if something were to happen to me, I could still read my little ones a story anytime they wanted. He’ll just have to get them one for Christmas! {wink}
