movie party crafts and sweets

Whether you’re having the gang over for a showing under the stars or pulling out sleeping bags and popcorn, the perfect movie night shindig starts with a great color scheme. I chose a classic red and white to coordinate with our new Movie Night printable collection – I love how the blue adds the extra pop of color!

I gathered up some fun ideas, from invitations to sweet treats to these clever DIY movie concession boxes to mason jars with chalkboard labels — all the ingredients for a fabulous movie night (clockwise from top left):

photo a day on Instagram

So are you on Instagram yet? Are you participating in a photo a day hashtag? Well I’ve been watching others for a few months and have decided to give it a whirl. It’s going to be fun!

I’ve chosen to go with Fat Mum Slim this month. This list is the challenges for each day. Simply take a picture with this in mind, share it on Instagram (which allows you to also share quickly on Twitter, Facebook and other apps) and use the #photoadayJune hashtag so others can find you. And if you’re not sure what to take a picture of, Fat Mum Slim gives a few points of inspiration in her June post.

If you’re not on Instagram, go to your app store (now also available for android users!) and get it. You’ll love it!

You can find me at @thecelebrationshoppe on Instagram. If you follow me, comment on a post and say hi!

As always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake and create! Happy Monday!

You’re So Invited ~ an entertaining read!

I had the pleasure recently of chatting with Cheryl Najafi, author of a very entertaining new read, You’re So Invited.  We instantly clicked. Her down-to-earth personality and love of simple entertaining and DIY is right up my alley!

Cheryl grew up in rural Missouri surrounded by family, where her mom often hosted family and friends, but focused mostly on the food. So Cheryl, being Cheryl, took to planning the table. And since she was just a kid she used what was available: tree branches for centerpieces, embroidered linens made by her Aunts, flowers from the garden.

Fast forward to marriage and a husband that often brought business associates home for dinner and Cheryl found herself in a world of china and silver. Although those things are lovely, Cheryl quickly felt stifled and took to planning themed dinner parties full of character that got her guests talking and kept them entertained.

Once, her hubby asked her to tone down her style a bit for an upcoming party, she went back to the china and silver as he asked, but refusing to go back in the “box” she served all ”kid” foods (e.g., chicken nuggets and mac and cheese) and her guests loved it! It was definitely a business dinner that would not be quickly forgotten.

Cheryl’s new book is full of creativity and with 10 completely planned parties full of inspiration, I know you’ll love it as much as I did! You can find You’re So Invited on bookshelves now and on Amazon.

And hop over to CherylStyle.com for all her book tour dates. She’ll be at Pottery Barns all around the U.S. starting today!

derby party + free printables

Hey everyone, it’s Bridget, again. I’m back to share this fabulous Kentucky Derby styled shoot that was recently submitted to us from Deanna at Mirabelle Creations.

On May 5th, Kentuckians will be celebrating the 138th annual Kentucky Derby. Being a Cincinnati girl, I grew up steeped in the “Run for the Roses” tradition, a Kentucky Derby fundraisting event. So I was thrilled to see that Deanna captured this timeless tradition with modern flair in her FREE printables! The sweet color palette of red, white, and blue and the rose-centered design are a perfect complement.

And I’m dying to try out some of her delicious recipes. She made Kentucky Bourbon Ball Pops and took another traditional Kentucky dessert, Derby Pie – a gooey brown sugar, pecan, and dark chocolate treat – and made Kentucky Derby pie inspired cupcakes!

So grab your big hat and your mint julip, and ”race” on over to Mirabelle Creations to download her FREE Kentucky Derby party printables to create this charming party for your very own! {Thanks, Deanna, for letting us share!}

you’ll BEE in love ~ Sweet Designs

I received an advanced copy of Amy Atlas’ new book Sweet Designs a week or so ago. I knew it was going to be wonderful as Amy is a true creative soul, and I wasn’t disappointed. It’s full of lovely photography, crafting ideas, baking tips, styling inspiration and much more.

I’m honestly impressed with the organization and the amount of DIY detail. I’m a DIY girl. Don’t just show me a pretty picture. I want to know how to recreate it. And Amy does just that! Each chapter includes:

  • Bake It: Recipes for making cakes, cookies, pies, mousse, truffles, popsicles, ice cream bars, drinks, and more.
  • Craft It: Instructions and directions for templates to create her signature popcorn cups, candy bar wrappers, paper pinwheels and more.
  • Style It: Designer secrets for arranging sweets, choosing patterns, mixing textures and colors.
  • Shop It: Pick up sweets from the corner store to pair with home-baked desserts.
  • Display It: Serving vessels and display touches to create the whole dessert table or make a single treat stand out.
  • Switch It: Creative ways to swap the desserts, colors, or platters to better suit your needs.

I’m just in love with the honeycomb backdrop for her Honey, I Love You dessert table. It’s adorable and totally doable! You’ll be amazed how simple it is to make and she reveals all the DIY steps right in her “craft it” section.

Oh, and take these little bumble bee favor bags. Yet another, simple and creative idea that will have your guests buzzing!

You can find Amy’s book (352 pages with over 270 never before seen images) in stores tomorrow, April 24th, in the cookbook section and on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. And you can read some of Amy’s two-year behind the scenes journey on her blog, Sweet Designs

As always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake and create!

fun & creative veggie party food

I’m a sucker for a “fun food” and although it’s usually things like my mini space shuttle cakes, frog cookies or graduation cap donut cupcakes, this time it’s different. I ran across this fabulous FREE e-book this weekend and just had to share it with all of you. It’s genius, creatively styled and just plain fun — all from the talented Claire Crespo and Country Crock.

There are more than 20 ideas including zucchini boats, sweet potato bear claws, pizza flag, out of the park baseballs and so many more. As I was browsing through it I thought, what fun ideas for healthy party snacks. The hippo dip is perfect for my safari birthday party collection, the molecular model brussel sprouts are so fun for my science birthday party collection, the butterfly squash is perfect for my bugs & butterflies birthday party collection, the green bean campfire is hilarious for my campout birthday party collection, and on and on!
