Back to school season is exciting around our house. The kids can’t wait to get the new notebooks, new clothes, new shoes, new backpacks… and we always have a fun little party with some of our best friends. Just a little kickoff to the next chapter in their education.

And this year I’ve whipped up few free party printables to share with my favorite readers! The set includes:

  • Back To School cake topper
  • I love bookworms (treat toppers or bookmark)
  • You’re A Smart Cookie (treat topper or bookmark)
  • Pencil or straw slips
  • A+ buttons (great as table confetti)

Want a closer look?!

My favorite is the mini cake bunting welcoming them back to school. So easy to assemble. Just cut out the bunting, fold over string, bakers twine or ribbon, and use a glue dot to close.

I love little happy reminders on their pencils.

I also like to remind them that they’re smart cookies. {wink}

And since my youngest son’s favorite back to school treat is the gummy worm… we had to have a few book worms too. {grin}

Outdoor Movie Party Ideas

I’ve been wanting to host an outdoor movie night.

Magical Movie Night | Lay Baby Lay

Not necessarily a birthday party, but just a family and friends outdoor night before the fireflies stop blinking and the sun starts going down at 7… I’m a lover of all the seasons, but I truly miss summer when it’s gone.

This party and photography is from Lay Baby Lay. She hosted it for her little Vivi’s second birthday party. You simply must hop over to her blog for tons of fun and creative ideas.

My favorite element is the tent. She set up an individual tent per family, complete with paper fans, lights, blankets and pillows. So perfect.

Back To School Photography – Fun with Bubble Gum

I don’t know about you… but the older my kids get the harder it is to get them to pose for good back to school pictures. I mean, they’re not super thrilled about summer ending…

So last August I tried something new. I started out the normal way (see my post about getting “no tear, no stress” back to school photos) and got some great shots… and then they got tired. So to liven them back up I decided I needed to distract them a bit. Hence, the bubble gum.

It was amazing. There were smiles, giggles, teasing… and the photos better captured their real personalities.

I always like to try and catch their style if I can and last year my oldest, Alex, really wanted a messenger bag instead of a backpack. I think he pulled it off well with his professor cardigan. {wink}

As always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake, create and celebrate! Oh yea… and get it all in pictures. {grin}

Banana, Peanut Butter & Chocolate Birthday Pancakes

Want to make your birthday kiddo feel special? How about birthday pancakes? My youngest loves banana pancakes, but my oldest insisted on a twist! {wink}

Banana Peanut Butter & Chocolate Birthday Pancakes | Kim Byers, TheCelebrationShoppe.com

These peanut butter chocolate banana pancakes are so very simple…  because… well, I used a shortcut.

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cup soy milk
  • 2 cups Bisquick
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 large ripe banana

Blend all ingredients in a mixer, spoon onto a flat griddle and cook… with butter. Yep. Butter.

For the topping, it doesn’t get any easier. Just microwave (in a microwave safe bowl) 1 tbsp of smooth peanut butter per pancake stack and drizzle. Top with banana slices. Finally microwave fudge topping. I used Breyer’s in the microwave safe pouch. My kiddos… okay and me too… love it!

Hope you’re inspired to craft, bake, create and celebrate… and that these help make your kiddos smile on their birthday!
