60th birthday party in pink and gold watercolors

A lovely pink and gold happy 60th birthday party!

Pink and Gold 60th Birthday Party

Hi everyone!  It’s Deanna from Mirabelle Creations and I’m excited to be here at The Celebration Shoppe sharing a recent pink, white and gold Watercolor Party I hosted in honor of my mom’s 60th birthday.

Pink and Gold 60th Birthday Party

Although a watercolor theme is a common theme for kids’ art parties, it’s also a great party theme for a more sophisticated party. This pink watercolor theme lends a fresh, ethereal feel.  I love the versatility of a watercolor party theme because it works well for adult birthday parties, kid birthday parties, weddings, showers, or even dinner parties.

Pink and Gold Birthday Party Cake

The pink watercolor décor was paired with touches of gold for this 60th birthday dinner.  Some of the elements that were incorporated into the party included: a Watercolor Printable Party Collection, a Dip Dyed Ruffled Crepe Paper Garland, pink and gold mini tissue fringe cake topper, fudge topped with gold sprinkles, and gold heart cupcake toppers.  Fresh flowers and a pink and gold tablescape completed the party set up.

pink ombre cake & happy 60th birthday Mom!

Simple Pink Ombre Cake | TheCelebrationShoppe.com

My sweet mom turned 60 this week!

My boys decorated a breakfast for her. Lots of streamers and pink… pink everywhere. She loved it. {grin}

60th Birthday Party | TheCelebrationShoppe.com

For her cake I tried my hand at making my first ombre cake. It was a simple one, but I think it turned out pretty!

To ice a simple pink ombre cake, you’ll need:

  • Your favorite homemade buttercream icing
  • Pink gel food coloring
  • Three bowls
  • Pink rock candy
  • Optional: Wax paper

How to ice an ombre cake:

  1. Starting with a chilled two layer cake that already has a white crumb coat.
  2. Divide your icing into three bowls.
  3. Add one drop of gel food coloring to one bowl, two drops to another and three to another. Go light on the drops. It will get dark quickly.
  4. Apply your darkest icing to the bottom, about an inch tall.
  5. Apply the middle color to the middle, again, about an inch tall.
  6. Apply the lightest color to the top inch and top of cake.
  7. Crumble rock candy (if on sticks, crush inside plastic on cutting board), and sprinkle around edge of cake.

Bakers tip: Using small 3×3 pieces of wax paper, slip them under your cake on your cake plate, before icing your cake. This helps keep the cake plate clean. Just slip them out once you’re done and touch up your icing near the base if needed.

We also whipped up a quick glitter number cake topper.

You’ll need:

  • Printed numbers (just open Word, type your numbers in the point size and color you desire) on cardstock paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue (liquid is fine, but put it on your finger, not the paper, to apply)
  • Glitter
  • Lollipop stick
  • Hot glue

Easy steps:

  1. Cut out the numbers.
  2. Apply glue (with your finger if liquid, otherwise your paper will get too wet).
  3. Sprinkle on the glitter (over a sheet of paper if you want to save excess).
  4. Hot glue numbers to lollipop sticks.

Monsters University {playdate party}

Monsters University

So who’s excited for tomorrow’s premier of the new Disney Monsters University movie?!

Dina of Deliciously Darling Events created this adorable playdate to celebrate.

Here are the details in her words:

My kiddos love animated movies. I’m actually not sure who loves these movies more, the kids or mama. We wanted to celebrate the upcoming Monsters University movie with a little MU Play Date. Inspired by The Celebrations ShoppeLynlee’s Petite Cakes & Laura’s Little Party instagram post, I decided to put together a sweet little dessert table for my kiddos play date.

Monsters University Monsters-University-2 Monsters-University-3 Monsters-University-4 Monsters-University-5Monsters-University-14 Monsters-University-16

So why do a dessert table on a couch? Answer: Why not? I’ve always wanted to set up a dessert display on a couch. This couch is perfection – white & leather so it’s easy to clean post play date. I wanted a simple, inexpensive & easy dessert set up. I opted for dressing up store bought cupcakes with monster eyes & using store bought sugar cookies. How perfect are the sully & mike cookies from Target? Chocolate covered oreo pops & brownie push up pops, sparkling fruit water were also featured. Wrap a few books in scrapbook paper and washi tape a Mike Wazowski to the couch and you have an instant party.

“Scream Like Monster.” I did a little research and loved the “Scream like Monster” tag line on the marketing posters for Monsters University. I fought the urge to insert an “A” into the banner while making it. Just before the play date, my son Malik walks up to me and says “Love the banner mom but you forgot an A. It should be ‘scream like A monster’ not ‘scream like monster.’” LOL. You never argue with a soon-to-be 1st grader when they are correcting you on your English.

I just couldn’t say no to the adorable Monsters U letter Jackets my kiddos are sporting. I know it’s like 100 degrees outside but they are going to be perfect for the fall when they return back to school.

I hope you enjoy & are inspired to put together your own “Scream Like Monster” party.
