Easy Paper Straw Kid Crafts – DIY Art Easel

My sweet friend Hilary made these easy DIY art easels out of paper straws.

Easy Paper Straw Easel Craft - DIY Art Easel | Kim Byers, TheCelebrationShoppe.com

I love that they can be any color combination and are perfect for art parties or to showcase art for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Hilary made them with my boys so they could showcase an art project they made in class this past school year. They were thrilled!

Or, if I were having an art party I’d make a small version for placecard holders. So cute!

You’ll need: Paper Straws, Elmer’s Glue Dots, Scissors

Directions: Cut the straws to desired length, apply Elmer’s Glue Dots at the joints and display. It’s that easy.

Peanut Butter Banana Pancakes – A Birthday Breakfast

Peanut butter banana pancakes. Yum! Birthday breakfasts are fun. I almost never let my boys have sweets before noon… I know… the occasional doughnut never hurt anyone. It’s more of… if they start the day with sugar it seems to just keep going. {wink}

Peanut Butter Banana Pancakes - A Birthday Breakfast | Kim Byers, TheCelebrationShoppe.com

In any case, birthdays are different and my family has so many birthdays this month. My hubby turns… well… just turns… tomorrow. And my youngest turns 8 next week. I can’t believe my little boy is going to be 8 years old!

And we’ll be having birthday breakfasts. Something fun and yummy to kick off the day of sugar.

These peanut butter banana pancakes are so very simple…  because… well, I used a shortcut.

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cup soy milk
  • 2 cups Bisquick
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 large ripe banana

Blend all ingredients in a mixer, spoon onto a flat griddle and cook… with butter. Yep. Butter.

Peanut Butter Banana Pancake Recipe | Kim Byers, TheCelebrationShoppe.com

For the topping, it doesn’t get any easier. Just microwave (in a microwave safe bowl) 1 tbsp of smooth peanut butter per pancake stack and drizzle.

For decorations, I used paper straws, stripe napkins, and mini forks from Target. And those darling little sparkle poms are Darice brand from JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores.

In my opinion, choosing the color palette for your wedding has to be one of the toughest decisions for the big day… beyond choosing the right man of course. {wink} Everything from your bridesmaid dresses, flower arrangements, invitations, linens, ribbons, favors… and on and on… and on… will reflect the colors you’ve chosen.

Easy OREO Football Party Favors

Planning a football party? Me too. My youngest chose football as his birthday party theme for this year. I still have weeks to plan, but we needed an easy party favor to celebrate with his classmates on the last day of school since he has a summer birthday.

Fun Food: Easy Football Party Favors | Kim Byers, TheCelebrationShoppe.com

These simple football party treats only take a few minutes. You’ll need:

And here are the super easy steps:

  1. Insert two OREOs into the cello. The best part, they fit right in perfectly.
  2. Cut about 2″ off the top of the bag.
  3. Seal with a piece of washi tape.
  4. Draw football threads with a Painters pen.

Construction Theme Birthday Party

Yesterday I shared the darling Construction Themed Birthday Cake and today I’m sharing all the rest of the party details. So if you have a little digger in the family, make sure you pin this page for lots of party inspiration!

And for the party games, activities and favors!

Construction Theme Birthday Party Activities | Ellen Jay Events on TheCelebrationShoppe.com

Details straight from the hostess, Lauren of Ellen Jay Events:

This was for my son Sam’s 2nd birthday. I decided to go with a dump truck construction theme because he is crazy about trucks right now. Last year for his first birthday I did a Little Man theme with bow ties and mustaches in pastel colors so this year I wanted to go a little bit bolder with the orange and yellow and lots of chocolate to represent dirt and mud and all the things little boys love and showcase some of his interests! Sam absolutely had a blast dressing up as a construction worker in the photo booth and playing dump trucks with all of his friends in the sandbox. And a month later, he is still talking about,  “my birthday party”, “dump trucks” and “dirt” so I think it was a success!

For the sweets I wanted to focus on lots of chocolate to resemble dirt/mud with pops of orange and yellow. They consisted of chocolate cake and cupcakes with chocolate buttercream, “dirt cups” – layers of brownies, chocolate pudding and crushed oreos, sugar cookies in the shapes of dump trucks, hard hats, construction cones and the #2, homemade caramel corn, chocolate dipped pretzel rods, Reese’s Pieces and Whoppers.

The party activities included a coloring station with crayons and hard hats for all the kids, a photo booth with props, and a “pin the load on the dump truck” game with a prize wall. For party favors all the kids got a sand bucket and shovel with a dump truck, stickers and bubbles.

The invitation/printables were ordered on etsy from KM Thomas Designs
